Model Selection Guide for SCP-35 Series

The MEAN WELL SCP-35 Series includes two compact AC/DC power supplies with battery connection and temperature-compensated charging-voltage capability: SCP-35-12 and SCP-35-24.

Model selection is primarily determined by the required DC output voltage, load current and battery system voltage. Both models share the same 85–264VAC or 120–370VDC input range, battery connection, optional NTC temperature compensation, output voltage detection signal, protection functions and 99 × 97 × 36 mm enclosure.

SCP-35-12 – 13.8V Output

The MEAN WELL SCP-35-12 provides a 13.8V output rated at 2.6A with 35.9W rated power. Typical efficiency is 83%, and the output voltage can be adjusted approximately -5% to +15% from the rated value.

Choose SCP-35-12 when the connected DC load and battery-supported system require a nominal output around 13.8V and the required continuous load current does not exceed 2.6A.

SCP-35-24 – 27.6V Output

The MEAN WELL SCP-35-24 provides a 27.6V output rated at 1.4A with 38.6W rated power. Typical efficiency is 86%, and the output voltage can also be adjusted approximately -5% to +15% from the rated value.

Choose SCP-35-24 when the system requires a nominal output around 27.6V and the connected load current is within the 1.4A rated output capability.

How to Choose Between SCP-35-12 and SCP-35-24

Start with the required system voltage. Choose SCP-35-12 for a 13.8V output or SCP-35-24 for a 27.6V output.

Then confirm the required load current. SCP-35-12 provides up to 2.6A, while SCP-35-24 provides up to 1.4A. The connected load should remain within the rated output capability of the selected model.

Both models provide dedicated B+ and B- battery connections and support an optional NTC temperature sensor through CN2. When the sensor is connected, the output voltage changes with ambient temperature to provide charging-voltage temperature compensation. If the sensor is not used, the charger continues to operate normally.

Output Voltage Detection and Monitoring

Both SCP-35 models provide an L output voltage detection signal for external status monitoring. Under normal AC input, the L signal is approximately the output voltage plus 0.2–0.7V. During AC failure, the signal falls to 0V.

This allows an external controller or monitoring circuit to distinguish between normal AC operation and AC failure without requiring a communication interface.

Battery Connection, Temperature Compensation and Status Monitoring

The MEAN WELL SCP-35 Series provides dedicated battery connections, optional charging-voltage temperature compensation and an output voltage detection signal for battery-supported DC systems. These functions are available on both SCP-35-12 and SCP-35-24.

Battery Connection

The external battery connects through the dedicated B+ and B- terminals, while the main DC load connects to the +V and -V output terminals.

The battery terminals and main output terminals serve different functions, so the battery should be connected only to the designated B+ / B- connections.

Charging-Voltage Temperature Compensation

An optional NTC temperature sensor can be connected through CN2 to compensate the charging voltage according to ambient temperature.

With the reference 100kΩ NTC thermistor specified by MEAN WELL, the output voltage changes with temperature. For SCP-35-12, the reference output is approximately 14.4V at 0°C, 13.8V at 25°C and 13.2V at 50°C. For SCP-35-24, the corresponding values are approximately 29.3V, 27.6V and 26.4V.

If the temperature sensor is not connected, the charger continues to operate normally.

Adjustment note: If the output voltage is adjusted away from the rated value using the internal potentiometer, MEAN WELL recommends confirming the appropriate thermistor value for the modified setting.

Output Voltage Detection

The SCP-35 Series provides an L output voltage detection signal for external status monitoring.

Under normal AC input, the L signal is approximately output voltage +0.2 to 0.7V. When AC input fails, the L signal falls to 0V.

This signal can be used by an external monitoring circuit or controller to distinguish between normal AC operation and AC failure.

Battery Reverse-Polarity Protection

The SCP-35 Series includes battery reverse-polarity protection to reduce the risk of damage if the external battery is connected with incorrect polarity.

The series also provides short-circuit, overload and overvoltage protection for the DC output.

Mechanical Dimensions and Installation

The MEAN WELL SCP-35 Series uses a compact enclosed chassis designed for integration into DC power and battery-supported equipment. Its small footprint and free-air convection cooling make it suitable for installations where space is limited and forced-air cooling is not required.

Dimensions

The SCP-35 Series measures 99 × 97 × 36 mm (L × W × H).

The mechanical drawing shows the AC input terminal block, DC output terminals, battery connections, CN2 temperature-sensor connector, LED indicator, internal adjustment point and mounting holes.

AC Input and DC Output Connections

AC input is connected through TB1, which provides terminals for:

  • AC/L: AC line input
  • AC/N: AC neutral input
  • FG: Frame ground

The regulated DC output is available through TB2, with dedicated +V and -V terminals for the connected load.

Battery Connections

The SCP-35 Series provides dedicated B+ and B- battery connections.

The external battery should be connected only to these battery terminals. The +V / -V terminals are intended for the regulated DC output and should not be used as battery connections.

CN2 Temperature Sensor Connection

The CN2 connector is provided for an optional NTC temperature sensor used for charging-voltage temperature compensation.

The datasheet specifies a JST B2B-XH or equivalent connector, with a compatible JST XHP housing and corresponding terminal or equivalent.

If the temperature sensor is not connected, the charger continues to operate normally.

Mounting and Cooling

The SCP-35 Series is cooled by free-air convection. The unit should therefore be installed with sufficient surrounding space to allow natural airflow and heat dissipation.

The mechanical drawing provides the mounting-hole positions and enclosure dimensions required for equipment integration.

Operating Environment and Derating

The SCP-35 Series operates from -20°C to +60°C.

Output derating is required at higher ambient temperatures according to the derating curve. The datasheet also shows input-voltage derating at low AC input voltage.
